Singapore's First Car Carrier Implements Ship-to-Ship LNG Bunkering

news-details

On March 8, the LNG-fueled car carrier "JASMINE LEADER" operated by Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha refueled with LNG at the anchorage in Singapore. It will be the first time for a car carrier to refuel LNG using the Ship-to-Ship method in the country.

FueLNG Bellina, which supplied LNG fuel to the ship, is Singapore's only LNG owned by FueLNG Pte. It's a bunkering ship.

Comment from Chairman of FueLNG and Head of Shell Downstream LNG Tahir Faruqui

This achievement highlights our efforts to promote the adoption of LNG as a marine fuel. I am proud that we were able to realize LNG bunkering for a car carrier in Singapore in cooperation with NYK Line, and that we were able to demonstrate its safety. LNG is currently the lowest carbon fuel available on a large scale and we will continue to work with our customers to drive the growth of the LNG bunkering industry in the region.

Comment from Yuji Nishijima, Executive Officer in charge of NYK Fuel Group

We are very pleased that our LNG-fueled car carrier "JASMINE LEADER" has succeeded in replenishing LNG bunkering to a car carrier for the first time in Singapore using the Ship-to-Ship method. This will be a big step toward achieving our long-term GHG reduction goal of “achieving net zero emissions by 2050” in our ocean shipping business. We would like to thank FueLNG and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore for their cooperation and support in this LNG bunkering.
